Sicily is the island of the sun, as an old motto says. So, is normal for people to stay in the streets and squares for longer time, strolling, chatting, having fun... What Sicilians do in the meantime? They eat! And, because Sicily has a very long tradition in street food and its specialties are so various as good, we can argue that they spend their time in the right way.
With our food tour, while strolling surrounded by the beauty of art and architecture of Catania, explore the Baroque centre of the city and satisfy your love for food with some samples of the best Sicilian delicacies. You will be astonished by their variety and the connection with religion, miths, history and fun stories…
At the Piscaria, the lively and colourful traditional food market of Catania, you will discover great cured meats and cheeses. Along the way, you won’t miss the famous Sicilian cannolo – a mouth watering crunchy crust filled with fresh and sweet ricotta cheese – and other pastries in one of the most appreciated pastry shop in town. Another stop is dedicated to an olive oil tasting, one of the best Sicilian product, pillar of the Mediterranean diet. Final stop in a caffè for a tasting of Sicilian street food – as for the appetising arancino in its Catanese version, with fried eggplants and basil – or in a trattoria, the perfect place to enjoy a light lunch with a nice selection of tasty starters (the Italian antipasto) such as caponata, eggplant parmigiana, fried pecorino cheese...
