Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Spanish, French… The different dominations through the millennia, have made of Sicily a real treasure of interwoven cultures, an heritage that is expressed not only in art and architecture, but in our culinary heritage too. A unique mix of ingredients and flavours well represented in the great variety of Sicilian pastries, a tradition with a surprising net of myths, rites and legends.
This exclusive pastry making class is meant to discover this fascinating side of Sicily and some of its most rapresentative pastries, such as cannoli, minnuzze di Sant’Agata (pretty and delicate little pastries made in the form of breasts, in memory of the martyrdom of the patron saint of Catania), cudduri for Easter, crispelle for St. Joseph’s day (fried rice sweets covered with orange blossom honey), rame, mustaccioli, cuffitelle and buccellati for Christmas. Just to name a few…
During the class, guided step-by-step by our pastry-making chef, learn how to make some of the most interesting (and delicious!) pastries. And, because tradition is often based on calendar, recipes will be chosen accordingly to the season and religious festivals. This way we can use the best available ingredients and recreate the authentic atmosphere and taste of the time.
